Hello!

I’m Omar Sanchez Vian. My artistic practice was born from music and is now expanding into sound art as a poetic, ecological, and sensory form of connection. I explore sound as living matter—a bridge between bodies, territories, and memory.

My bond with nature is nothing new; it has always been part of me. I was born close to water, and since childhood, I’ve felt that trees, rivers, and the wind have their own voices. Throughout my musical career, this connection has infused my songs—many of them true tributes to water, forests, and the sea.

In 2012, I returned to Barranquilla to live near the ocean. That was a time of deep reconnection, coinciding with the production of La Profunda, an album by Sicotrópico closely tied to water and the sonic landscapes of the Caribbean. During that period, I also co-founded Fundación BATIS, an organization dedicated to ecological education and mangrove restoration, which has been a constant source of inspiration for both my music and my way of being in the world.

This life experience—where music and ecology intertwine—marked a turning point in my artistic practice. I realized I wanted to go beyond the song and traditional stage. I wanted to explore sound as a space of immersion, of deep listening, of direct relationship with ecosystems.

Sound art allows me to do that: to work with natural landscapes, with the memory of water, with immersive technologies, acoustic sculptures, and sensory experiences that not only move people but also invite care and repair. It’s an open, hybrid field that lets me bring together everything I am: musician, producer, ecological activist, and lover of sound and territory.
